Creative Campus celebrates Alberta Arts Days in Hinton.

Look what a group of people can do in a weekend.
While this pebble mosaic is still curing in the Guild, we can only imagine how exciting it will be to place it in a prominent position outside the building, to remind us of the cooperative spirit which daily enriches the lives of those who work, play and dream together.
And Hinton is on stage!

The new guild space in Hinton – located at the old RCMP/Firehall across from West Fraser – now houses The Athabasca Pottery Guild, The Creative Campus, YRAF, The Rocky Mountain Quilters and the Hinton Art Club. Lots of room, lots of activity – regular workshops and meeting spaces.
Saturday November 14 The Pottery Guild is having an open house from 1-4. Check out the new space and take a spin at the wall of wheels!! Monday classes are from 6:30 – 8:30pm Nov 23,30 Dec 7 and 14. Wednesdays classes are from 7-9pm Nov 25, Dec 2,9,16. $115 includes clay.
And to collect our stories the new class of ‘filmmakers’ that have been working together for several months now has an edit suite setup in the Guild. By the time the ‘Shoot Camp’ fires up in July we will have an amazing team of visual storytellers collecting local stories!!
Events in November in Jasper…
A few things of note – that could use some of the other communities support!
Nov 8 – Jasper’s Fred Kofin shares his stories of being an Auschwitz prisoner at the Museum at 2:30
Nov 14 – Dinner Theatre with the production of CHILDREN OF AUTUMN…a mother and daughter story that builds on our connections to nature. (you’ll just have to see it for more details!) It is also hoped that this production can tour your community!
Nov 22 – Jasper Christmas Fair (I believe there is still room for new vendors) I will have a table and of course – on that table will be Creative Campus stuff…so send me a calendar of whats up in your communities for the table.
Nov 27 – Much Music and CFS present a dance party…’Groove for life’
Nov 28 – Arts Jasper presents a one man theatre production called ‘Father Damien’. John Treleaven is Father Damien in spirit and shares the stories of the compassionate priest.
Laurie Greenwood is passing through our communities…in Jasper on the 25th.
Hope to see you in Jasper sometime!

Art groups in Grande Cache…
If you are looking for time to showcase your artistic ability you might want to check out some of our local groups. Palette Pals, Watercolours, Shutterbugs, Grande Theater Players, Arts and Culture Committee to name a few. For ways to be a member or get involved please check out www.yraf.com, the local Grande Cache coordinator can help you get there!
Looking for Space in Grande Cache
If you are looking for space for rent in Grande Cache we have a variety of venues from the cozy space of our tourist center to the wide open space of the Métis Hall. Prices range from $30 an hour to $400 a day. We also have locations where kitchens are available for private functions. The beauty of Grande Cache is all locations are close together so everything is within walking distance. For more info please contact YRAF website, www.yraf.com, for the Grande Cache coordinator.
Host your event in these facilities!
In an effort to bring the communities of Grande Cache, Jasper, Hinton and Edson together I wondered what each town offered as locations to host events.
Jasper has rooms in the activity centre and high school depending on the season…the Museum has a nice big room downstairs…we have two churches that regularly host musical evenings…and of course most of the hotels have conference rooms. For longer than one evening events the Palisades Centre has meeting rooms and accommodations and meals (booking several months in advance is suggested). And one of my new favourites is Pine Bungalows new building that offers meeting rooms, dining space for self catering and accommodation all in close proximity to strolls by the river. Pine Bungalows has finally received the much deserved award from Travel Alberta this year for all the ‘green initiatives’ that Michal Wasuita has pursued while building this new centre. Pine Bungalows is the home to Artists in the Pines – three days of art and music and food and friends at the end of September every year.
So, if someone wants to elaborate on this post…add comments…about what the other communities in the Creative Campus region have to offer!!
